Details as to Jacinto’s role are under wraps, as is the plot of the film, which will shoot this summer in Los Angeles. As previously reported, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are expected to return for their respective roles as body-swapping mother Tess and daughter Anna, with Julia Butters also in talks for a role.

Nisha Ganatra (Late Night) will direct from a script by Jordan Weiss, with the original film’s Andrew Gunn to produce alongside Kristin Burr. Whether the film will be for theaters or streaming isn’t yet clear.

Released in 2003 to a worldwide gross of over $160M, Freaky Friday revolves around Tess Coleman (Curtis), a single mother and uptight psychiatrist, and her rebellious teenage daughter, Anna (Lohan). Constantly at odds with each other due to their differing perspectives on life, they find themselves magically swapping bodies after a mysterious fortune cookie incident at a Chinese restaurant. As Tess wakes up in Anna’s body and vice versa, they are forced to live each other’s lives for a day.

The film is based on the same-name children’s book by Mary Rodgers, which was previously adapted into a 1976 film starring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster as mother and daughter.

Best known for starring opposite Kristen Bell and Ted Danson on Michael Schur’s hit NBC comedy The Good Place, which garnered 13 Emmy nominations across its four seasons, Jacinto has also been seen starring on the series Nine Perfect Strangers and Brand New Cherry Flavor from Hulu and Netflix, respectively. More recently appearing on Disney+’s buzzy Star Wars series The Acolyte, the actor’s also been seen in Top Gun: Maverick, as well as features like I Want You Back and Bad Times at the El Royale.

Part of the cast of the indie dramedy Cora Bora, out today, Jacinto will also soon be seen in Nnamdi Asomugha’s drama The Knife, exec produced by Mark and Jay Duplass, which is coming off of its Tribeca premiere. The actor is represented by CAA, Principals Talent Management, Alchemy Entertainment, and McKuin Frankel Whitehead.
