Marilyn Denis announces end of daytime talk show after 13 seasons: 'National gem'

She is stepping away from her long-running CTV show for some more family time

After 13 seasons, The Marilyn Denis Show is coming to an end. On Thursday morning, the daytime television host and veteran of Canada's broadcast landscape, Marilyn Denis, announced she is stepping away from her long-running CTV show for some more family time.

"I have a very special announcement to make, and it's going to be tough for me to make this," Denis said holding back tears.

“After 13 wonderful seasons, I've decided that this is the last season of this show,” she said to her live audience. “I want to be clear, I'm not retiring, and I'm very, very healthy."

"I'm gonna be 65, that's true," she quipped. "But life is really, really good and I look forward to spending more time with my family, especially that beautiful granddaughter, Everly," adding that the choice was hers to end her TV show and continue her radio show on CHUM-FM, which she co-hosts with Jamar McNeil.

Denis has also entered the podcast sphere, with the aptly named Marilyn Denis Does a Podcast.

“Hosting a national television show has been a career highlight, and such a rewarding and fulfilling chapter in my life, but after more than three decades of balancing my radio show with a daytime series I’m ready to step away and refocus on my family and other projects,” Denis explained.

The Marilyn Denis Show features lifestyle and entertainment segments, inviting experts from the fashion, food and design worlds, and celebrity guests. The show premiered on Jan. 10, 2011. In 2016 and 2018, it won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Talk Program.

Fans reacted to the announcement on Twitter, saddened but ultimately happy and thankful for her 12 years on television.

The farewell episode of The Marilyn Denis Show will air Friday, June 9 at 10 a.m. ET on CTV.
