Fire guts large home in Brampton

Fire crews in Brampton were busy battling a blaze that broke out inside a large house in the Castlemore Road and Goreway Drive area this morning.

Fire officials say it appears that no one was inside the home — located at 10230 Goreway Dr. — when the fire broke out.

Brampton Fire was called to the scene just after 7 a.m. The flames engulfed the entire house but by 8:15 a.m., crews had the fire largely contained.

Earlier reports that the home was abandoned are not accurate, according to Brampton Fire inspector Garry Jarrett.

"The owner is away. I understand relatives were looking after the home," he said. "I have no reason to believe anyone was in the building."

There is no word yet on what may have caused the fire. The Ontario Fire Marshal has been notified.
