Matt Lauer and His Girlfriend Were ‘Mixing and Mingling’ with the Media Elite at Don Lemon's Wedding
The former 'Today' show anchor and Shamin Abas celebrated with the who's who of the media industry
Matt Lauer and his girlfriend had a blast at Don Lemon's wedding!
Lauer, 66, and Shamin Abas, 55, celebrated Lemon, 58, and his longtime partner Tim Malone's union on April 6 in New York City.
A source who was at the ceremony tells PEOPLE that while Lauer “was not dancing,” he “was in very good spirits.”
“He was in a delightful mood and he and his girlfriend were mixing and mingling. Everyone loves her and loves them together. She makes him lighter, it seems,” the insider says of Abas, who began dating the former Today show anchor in 2019.
The pair were previously spotted holding hands as they entered the venue.
Aside from supporting Lemon and Malone, the source says Lauer had no worries and was excited about the coming months. “He talked about looking forward to summer and getting his boat out.”
The source adds that everything flowed nicely and lots of friendly chatting was done.
“The room was very small, and Don's guest list was pretty tight, so everyone really talked. We had no choice but to!” the insider tells PEOPLE, referring to Lemon’s 140-person limit.
Notable nuptial attendees included Alec and Hilaria Baldwin, Real Housewives of New York City’s Luann de Lesseps and legendary music producer Clive Davis.
Sex and the City and Emily in Paris creator Darren Star, Modern Family’s Steve Levitan and The View's Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines and Ana Navarro-Cárdenas were all present, as was Tamron Hall.
The ceremony was officiated by the United States ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield.

Another source who attended the A-list wedding said Lauer seemed right at home.
"It was a room filled with former and current media stars and execs and he was very much welcomed. Someone joked with him that he's gotta get to work at some point, that he's too young to retire,” the second source says.
Lauer then quipped, “Who said I'm retired?"
The news personality was fired from his role on Today in 2017 after he was accused of sexual assault by former NBC employee Brooke Nevils.

Though Lauer denied the allegation, other women later came forward with accusations of their own.
In December, he attended another New York wedding for Today show producer Jennifer Long and her husband Reid Sterrett.
That event marked the first time since Lauer’s termination that he and his former co-host Savannah Guthrie had been photographed at the same public place in six years.
