Medical Laboratories of Windsor workers on strike

Workers at Medical Laboratories of Windsor are on strike.

Approximately 90 workers went on strike at midnight.

"The workers did not make the decision to strike lightly. They care about the patients they serve but the time has come to stand up for fairness," stated Unifor National Representative Chris Taylor in a media release.

The staff members work at 11 locations.

Ken Durocher from Unifor Local 2458 said the employer has closed sites across the city and is redirecting customers to the lab on Ouellette Avenue, where members are picketing.

"We are basically giving [customers] some information about why we're on strike," he said. "We would definitely not stop the public from going in to get their tests done."

Durocher added there was a tentative agreement a week ago, but the workers rejected it.
