Meika Jordan's mother collapses with grief after murder trial testimony

Kyla Woodhouse, the mother of a six-year-old Calgary girl who was beaten to death, says nothing could have prepared her for sitting in on the murder trial.

Meika Jordan died of blunt force trauma in November 2011.

She had been in the care of her father and stepmother at the time. Spencer Jordan and Marie Magoon have both been charged with first-degree murder.

Woodhouse was not able to watch proceedings until now because she had to testify.

The Crown alleges the little girl was tortured for four days before she died.

'Clinically dead'

"I braced myself for as much as I could for the information I was going to hear, but I don't think any amount of preparation could have actually stopped what I heard today," she said.

Woodhouse broke down crying at the Calgary courthouse after hearing testimony from the paramedics who attended the scene. They said the young girl was “clinically dead” from severe head and body injuries.

"I've literally gone through every worst possible case scenario over and over again for the last three years," said Woodhouse.

"My one saving grace is that [the paramedics] were able to get her to hospital. The doctors in the hospital were able to keep her body alive at least long enough for us to get there and say our final goodbyes.”

Meika Jordan died the following day in hospital.
