Messi’s second-half goals cap Inter Miami’s largest margin of victory in team history

Lionel Messi has joined in on Inter Miami’s scoring fun vs. rivals Orlando City, bagging a second-half brace to give Inter Miami the biggest lead in the history of the Florida rivalry.

Messi matched Luis Suarez’s two first-half goals by scoring twice in six minutes in the second stanza at Chase Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Argentine superstar first bagged a comical goal in the 57th minute, controlling a ball that was cleared off the crossbar with his torso, juking past Lions goalkeeper Pedro Gallese, and walking the ball over the goal line as Orlando City defender Rodrigo Schlegel frantically tugged at Messi’s jersey in a futile effort to prevent the goal that made it 4-0.

Inter Miami’s captain added the fifth of the game in 62nd minute, meeting a gorgeous cross from Luis Suarez with a darting run to the back post that was capped off with a stellar and rare headed finish.

Messi now has three goals on the season, tying him with D.C. United’s Christian Benteke for the MLS lead.

It’s the biggest margin of victory in Inter Miami’s five-year history.
