Metro-east woman suffers serious injuries after crash that killed baby girl

An East St. Louis woman was seriously injured and airlifted to a Missouri hospital following a crash that wounded four others and left a child dead Thursday.

Lashonda L. Hollindsworth Hart, 48, was transported by survival flight to University Hospital in Columbia, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.

According to police, Hollindsworth was riding in a 2001 Buick LeSabre driven by Jamie Stringer, 28, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and four children between the ages of 5 and 1. The car was headed southbound on U.S. 61 near Palmyra, which is about 3 miles north of Hannibal, at about 5:37 p.m.

Police say the car left the roadway, struck the embankment, overturned and ended up in the median. The four children, whose names were not released due to their age, were transported by ambulance to Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois, where a 1-year-old girl was pronounced dead.

Hart and a 3-year-old female are listed in serious condition as of Friday morning. Stringer and the other children had “moderate” but non-life threatening injuries, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.
