Miami baseball’s Blake Cyr earns ACC Player of the Week honors

Miami sophomore infielder/designated hitter Blake Cyr was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the week on Monday.

Cyr, listed as 5-11 and 188 pounds out of Windermere High, hit .500 (8 for 16) for the week during a come-from-behind win over Stonehill and UM’s weekend series win over then-No. 13 (and now No. 17) Virginia.

Cyr hit three home runs and 11 RBI for the week, including a go-ahead grand slam Saturday in the eighth inning that capped Miami’s largest comeback since May 13, 1992 against Tampa. UM trailed Virginia by nine runs that game before the 16-12 upset win.

Cyr belted a two-run seventh-inning homer off the left-field scoreboard on Sunday to put UM up 11-10, but the Cavaliers won 14-11 to salvage the series.

UM (9-6, 2-1 ACC) travels to Boca Raton to face FAU at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. After that, the Hurricanes host No. 15 North Carolina (13-2) Friday through Sunday at Mark Light Field.
