Michael Gallup details Dallas Cowboys WRs pre-camp getaway with Dak Prescott, Navy SEALs

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup was all smiles from the moment he got on the plane in Dallas until the team arrived via charter buses at the Residence Inn in Oxnard, Calif., for the start of training camp on Monday.

What a difference a year makes for Gallup, who is healthy heading into camp this year. A year ago, he started camp rehabbing a torn ACL.

“I could barely walk coming into camp last year, so it was pretty rough for me,” Gallup said. “But this year I’m definitely excited I get to be out there with the guys from Day 1.”

Gallup missed the first three games of the season and never felt like himself, catching 39 passes for 424 yards and four touchdowns in 2022.

Gallup is running and cutting at full speed with full confidence in his abilities as a big-play threat again. He’s poised to have bounce back season and is further buoyed by a pre-camp getaway the Cowboys receivers and tight ends had with quarterback Dak Prescott at Lake Oconee Academy in Georgia a couple of weeks ago.

The getaway was to designed help the pass catchers enhance chemistry and continuity with Prescott so they call could be on the same page heading into camp, while also allowing them develop a closer bond.

Gallup said they got in a lot of work but they were also able to have some fun doing some things “you wouldn’t have thought we’d be doing.”

He said Prescott made it all mesh together.

“We’re out on the boat. We’re tubing, fishing, on the jet skis,” Gallup said. “But he also brought in a group of [Navy] SEALs. We all talked to them and they talked to us giving us stories and life goals.”

The group Prescott brought in to interact with the receivers is named O2X Human Performance, which is composed of Special Operations veterans and former Olympians.

Gallup said the weekend helped the receivers and tight end come into the camp with the right attitude and mindset.

“I think it’s very smart,” Gallup said. “I think every quarterback in the league should do that. I don’t know how many people do it but it’s been a big plus for us,especially the rookies who get to go. They got to see how we operate. See how we move and when we come into training camp, they’re ready to go.”

Gallup said it was another example of the type of the leader the Cowboys have in Prescott for organization such a getaway.

And it came as no surprise to him that Prescott left the pre-camp in Georgia and came to California to train before the team’s arrival on Monday. Prescott checked into the hotel hours before Gallup arrived on the team bus.

“He knows he’s a leader on this team. He knows how to operate,” Gallup said of Prescott. “Everybody sees that. He’s the first one in the locker room, the last one to leave. It’s always been that way. Probably one of the best leaders I’ve ever been around.

“For him to come here early to get a jump on everything. It’s just what you need to see when you’re coming in.”
