Michael Morlang's family once again ask for help to ID hit-and-run driver

Once again, relatives of a man who was struck and killed in a hit and run in 2013 are asking for the public's help to find the driver involved.

Michael Morlang, 30, was struck and killed on Aug. 11, 2013, sometime between 5 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. while he was walking south on a barely-lit part of Frank Kenny Road, north of Russell Road.

The northbound vehicle did not remain at the scene of the crash.

No one has come forward and police have no suspects.

'Please come forward and do the right thing'

Brian Visneskie and Kathryn Morlang hosted an awareness event at the site of the crash in 2014 and did so again on Monday morning.

"It is now two years, and we ... are asking the person or persons involved in Michalel's hit and run to come forward. You know who you are," Brian Visneskie said. "We really question why anybody would keep this quiet and not come forward, whether you are the person who struck and killed Michael or the person who is hiding any or all information.

"We are asking to finally have closure, not only for us but also for the person driving the vehicle ... Please come forward and do the right thing."

Police believe the vehicle that hit Morlang was a GM product with dark red or burgundy paint used in 1997-1998 and 2003-2010. The vehicle might have been repaired by a local garage or body shop since the 2013 crash.

Ottawa police Sgt. Wally McIlquham said investigators received about 100 tips that have all come to nothing, and that the investigation has come to a standstill.

"Somebody out there knows something. Please give us a call and help us," he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Ottawa police collisions unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 2481, or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477 (TIPS) or toll free at 1-800-222-8477.
