Motorists travelling between Ottawa and North Bay, Ont., this weekend may encounter a convoy of military vehicles taking part in a training exercise.

The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) says the training exercise will take place between Friday and Sunday, and will use highways 17, 417, 11 and others.

The convoy will pass through Mattawa, Ont., and other communities along the way. It will make both short stops and longer halts for rest, fuel, maintenance and training.

According to the CAF, the training will help prepare personnel to respond to emergencies including natural disasters such as floods and wildfires.

Military members participating in the training will not carry weapons or ammunition, the CAF said.

Members of the public are asked to take extra caution when approaching military vehicles.
