A 74-year-old man was found dead in floodwaters near Houston on Thursday, amid washout conditions following three days of heavy rain throughout the region.
The body of Roy Beauchamp was located in swift water hours after he tried to retrieve items from his flooded vehicle, according to the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office.
Numerous agencies joined a search to find the Corrigan man, whose body was found in the high-water location of Piney Creek Road at about midnight on Thursday, authorities said.
“Our prayers go out to to [sic] the family of Mr. Beauchamp,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a statement.

The sheriff’s office reported “thousands of dollars worth” of damage to roads and infrastructure in the area — which is about 85 miles northeast of Houston – due to the rain.

According to the agency, washouts were still an issue on Thursday “as runoff continues and trees are falling across roadways and fences with more rain expected next week.”

Since Monday, the National Weather Service reported between 7.56 and 12.99 inches of heavy rain throughout Trinity County.
The sheriff’s office urged continued caution when traveling on roads in the area.
