'Let's take the candy out of this': Viewers accuse M&M's of 'melting' in the face Fox News critics after Maya Rudolph hire
The company's move to discontinue its multicolour candies as spokespeople is a cop-out to 'toxic internet trolls', critics say
M&M's is getting slammed on Twitter after it announced on Monday that it's discontinuing its multi-coloured cast of candy spokespeople. Instead, its replacement would be the Saturday Night Live actress Maya Rudolph.

"We have decided to take an indefinite pause from the spokescandies," M&M's Twitter statement reads. "In their place, we are proud to introduce a spokesperson America can agree on: the beloved Maya Rudolph. We are confident Ms. Rudolph will champion the power of fun to create a world where everyone feels they belong."
This move comes shortly after M&M's popular spokescandies—like the all-new purple cast member—was criticized by conservatives like Fox News' Tucker Carlson. People have accused M&M of pulling this publicity stunt as a way of caving to critics like Carlson and also to distract the public from the child slavery lawsuit M&M is facing.
Viewers react, M&M slammed

Let’s take the candy out of this. Your advertising was based on supporting women. You are now backing down from it because a conservative talk show host didn’t like supporting women.
See, if you take the candy out of it, it’s a pretty crappy thing you did.— Tony Posnanski (@tonyposnanski) January 23, 2023
Congratulations on finding the weakest possible response to the dumbest manufactured outrage campaign. Maya Rudolph is lovely, but let’s be honest: What you’re announcing here is that your real spokesperson is Tucker Carlson.

This is either
A) some sort of Joke I am not understanding.
Or
B) a surrendering to some of the most toxic trolls on the internet over issues that both don’t matter and yet are still kinda too important to just give up and walk away from.
And I don’t know which… or both.— jon_a_ross (@jon_a_ross) January 23, 2023

I am a kind human but honestly I must say, this is a very special kind of stupid.

"We are confident Ms. Rudolph will champion the power of fun to create a world where everyone feels they belong"? For a company that cancelled your own mascot because you got gamergated, you're putting an awful lot on Maya Rudolph's shoulders.

By hiring a comedian, M&M's has missed the mark. The audience wants the beloved spokescandies back, not a new spokesperson. #bringbackthecandies

Do I want to know more about this or do I want to know less?

You had a real chance to own inadequate men of fading relevance such as Tucker Carlson and Nick Adams but instead you melted. Do better.
— Jonathan Goldman (@akjakalope) January 23, 2023
You made an entire brand change decision based on Tucker Carlson. Had to write this out to confirm to myself this is what I'm seeing.

How about staying the hell out of grooming politics and just stick to the m&m's that we all grew up to love? https://t.co/3dBlbzXUK4

When I cried about candy my mom would put me in time out.
When an entirely grown man cries about candy on FOX news for a week with wild unhinged grievances a multinational corporation caves. https://t.co/scxPbXXhMD— Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta (@malcolmkenyatta) January 23, 2023
Don't let this distract you from the fact that the M&Ms parent company is currently facing a child slavery lawsuit https://t.co/7odze6DUKG
