Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Disney announced the sequel Moana 2 on Wednesday. The film will be in theaters November 27.

The announcement did not mention returning voice cast. Disney declined to confirm the returns of voice actors such as Auli'i Cravalho or Dwayne Johnson to UPI.

Disney included the first image from the sequel showing Moana sailing above a turquoise whale in the ocean. A teaser video showed Moana blowing into a shell on the beach.

Disney CEO Bob Iger made the announcement. "We can't wait to give you more of Moana and Maui when Moana 2 comes to theaters this November," Iger said in a statement.

The plot describes Moana and Maui sailing into far seas with a new crew. Dave Derrick Jr. directs.

Like the 2016 film, Moana 2 will be a musical. Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote the songs for the original.

Disney announced a Moana series for Disney+ in 2020. Iger told CNBC, via Deadline and The Daily Mail, that the company decided to refashion the series into the sequel film.
