Mobile mental health unit coming to Listowel

NORTH PERTH – Last week, North Perth council agreed to lease office space to what CAO Kris Snell called a “mobile mental health unit that will serve Huron, Perth, and part of Bruce County.”

At the April 8 council meeting North Perth council passed a bylaw, without discussion, to authorize a lease agreement with Medavie Health Services.

According to their website, Medavie Health Services is a national primary health care solutions organization and the largest contracted provider of EMS management services in Canada.

Snell told council, North Perth was approached by the county to provide office space.

“We were able to free up a little bit of office space … it suits their needs because most of their time will be spent in the field,” he said.

According to the lease agreement – included in the April 8 agenda document – “North Perth is agreeable to granting Medavie a license for its mobile mental health program to use parts of the municipal office for the purposes of operating its program and storing technology and equipment.”

The municipality will provide three offices and two washrooms, located behind the council chambers in the municipal office at 330 Wallace Ave North.

The agreement, which came into effect April 8, will span from April 15, 2024 to April 15, 2027, and includes an option to renew for an additional three-year period with an adjustment to monthly fees ($500), which may be exercised should all parties be in agreement.
