Model Camille Fishel Started Planning Her White Party Looks in March — but Had a Major Wardrobe Mishap (Exclusive)

Michael Rubin's wife, Camille Fishel, opens up about her dress, hair and makeup prep for this year's Fourth of July rager in the Hamptons

Model Camille Fishel has certainly had her share of White Party outfit issues over the years.

The wife of Michael Rubin — the Fanatics founder who throws the notorious bash in the Hamptons that saw famous guests like Kim Kardashian, Emily Ratajkowski, Tom Brady, Camila Cabello and Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly this year — says this year's event was no different.

"I've stressed about this party in the past, but my biggest promise to myself this year was that I wouldn't sweat the small stuff," Fishel, 33, tells PEOPLE with a laugh, adding that she started planning her look sometime in March when the Super Bowl was over.

"I wanted to be as carefree as possible, because I've had a few things happen that I would panic over, and this year I was like, 'It is what it is.' And then my afterparty dress just didn't show up. It was a beautiful custom piece from a designer in the U.K., a beautiful corset with an attached miniskirt, and I think it's still in customs in England somewhere."

She kept her promise to herself and took the snafu in stride.

"This is one of those things where I didn't stress over it," she says. "I think with these things like if you go into a party with a getting-stressed attitude, you're going to come off stressed, whereas if you're just carefree, you can throw on an outfit and still look as beautiful as ever. And that was my attitude."

Fishel, of course, stunned in her main party look: A two-piece custom sheer dress from designer Laquan Smith. She also wore a heart-shaped necklace from Bianchessi. The heart-shaped diamond is 30 carats and the necklace altogether is 67 carats.

"Laquan Smith has made a few things for me before," says the mom to Romi, almost 4, and Gema, 2, whom she shares with Rubin.

"I've never met him, but he is just such an artistic, incredible designer. This year I saw this sheer dress that I loved, but he didn't make it in white, so I had him make it custom in white, and when it got here, it was a full-piece dress and I made the decision that I wanted a two-piece, just a top and a skirt."

She asked Smith if he could "literally chop it in half."

"Now I have this beautiful sheer two-piece set from Laquan," she says.

The week before the party, which goes from 5 p.m. to 6 a.m., Fishel says she took her girls away from the craziness of the prep.

"Our house gets taken over the week before the party for the actual prep, and we've got a million people there working their asses off building the tents and decorating the inside. This year Michael and I decided together it would be best to take the little ones to our Pennsylvania home."

She says the calm was good for the soul. "I just got as much sleep as possible, did a face mask, got a spray tan."

Before the main event, she spent an hour and a half getting her hair and makeup done and says she went with a different look this year.

"The girl that does my hair was like, 'Camille, you can't do the same hairstyle you've done the past three years.' But I just love it so much — it's this high pony with my bangs out and keeps my hair out of my face. But this year we're doing a half-up, half-down look that still keeps the hair out of my face."

Fishel says the best part of the event, which this year also saw guests like Brooks Nader, Don Lemon and Jake Paul, is reconnecting with all the friends, entertainers and athletes that she and Rubin know — this year's guests included regulars like Tom Brady, as well as Travis Scott, Fat Joe, DJ Khaled and more.

"I'm humbled about what Michael has built because a lot of it is about his relationships with these people. That's why it's the most incredible party because people from all walks of life get to come together for this one night," Fishel says.

"We have the most important people in business, the most important people in sports and entertainment and music. They all get to come together and reconnect, and a lot of them haven't seen each other since the White Party before. Michael and I joke that it's about 400 of our closest friends coming over for a catch-up."

The afterparty is the most fun part of all.

"It's like a nightclub and it's just so fun seeing all these people let loose. Some of these people, they work their asses off, a lot of them at the top of their game. So they're working their asses off all year long, and then have this one night of letting loose and just hanging out. No one gets a plus on. Everyone knows each other."

As for the after-afterparty?

"I just crash!" she says of the recovery period, adding that they also provide IVs for the guests and tons of food. "Usually we just chill for three days, but this year I have 10 relatives coming on the sixth and then our daughter turns 4, so we're throwing her a party and probably taking her to Lego Land. I've got a crazy seven days after the party this year!"
