Modesto High voted best high school football home atmosphere by Stanislaus District fans

No matter what stadium the Modesto High football team plays its home games in during the season, the Black Hole travels.

During the 2023 high school football season, the Panthers hosted games at Gregori, Downey and Johansen, and their home fans and student section made the atmosphere electric.

“We’ve always taken a lot of pride in our school and manufacturing that energy and enthusiasm,” Modesto football coach Dylan Miller said. “We don’t have a ‘home’ stadium to pull from so it’s got to come from our fans.”

The Black Hole is how the Panthers’ student section is known. Students show up in droves to volleyball, basketball and Friday night football games with the goal of being as disruptive to the opposition as possible. It is a longstanding tradition that has the support of everyone on campus, including coaches of other sports, faculty and staff.

“The Black Hole has always been a force to be reckoned with,” Miller said.

Fans across the Stanislaus District made their opinion known on who they believe has the best football home game atmosphere. With 29,500 votes, Modesto High was voted the area’s most spirited fan base.

Modesto High won the poll, earning 53% (29,500 votes) of the more than 56,000 votes in the poll. Gregori High received 26% of the votes and Hughson High (9%), Big Valley Christian (5%) and Beyer High (4%) all received more than 2,000 votes.
