Modesto youth theater company brings musical ‘Addams Family’ to Modesto. Where, what to expect
Look for a revisit with a wacky and well-known family as YES Company returns for its summer production.
“The Addams Family — School Edition” will be presented July 20-23 at the Gallo Center for the Arts.
It marks the 32nd annual production from the revolving troupe of youths.
The show has a cast and crew of 72 area students in the Youth Entertainment Stage (YES) Company, according to a press release.
The musical comedy tells the story “that is every father’s nightmare,” the release said.
Princess of darkness Wednesday Addams has grown up and fallen in love with a young man her parents have never met.
She confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother, according to the Gallo Center website. So Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done — keep a secret from his wife, Morticia.
“Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s ‘normal’ boyfriend and his parents,” the press release said.
The production will be directed by Maggie Sniffen and based on characters created by cartoonist Charles Addams.
“We’re thrilled to be back on stage this summer with a group of students coming from all corners of our valley,” Gallo Center Arts Education Director Cortney Hurst said in the release. “YES Company has a reputation for excellence and this production will not disappoint.”
The ooky, kooky family created by cartoonist Charles Addams is enjoying a spike in popularity because of the Netflix show “Wednesday,” starring Jenna Ortega.
YES Company is an audition-based youth theater troupe that produces a full-length Broadway-type musical each summer. Directed and designed by local theater professionals, the cast for its productions features students in grades 7-12, the release said.
The company is a partnership of the Gallo Center of the Arts and the Stanislaus County Office of Education.
“The Addams Family School Edition” will be presented at 7 p.m. July 20-21, 2 p.m. July 22-23 at the Gallo Center, 1000 I St., Modesto.
Tickets are $14-$45, available online www.galloarts.org, by calling 209-338-2100, or from the ticket office at the Gallo Center.
