Moncton is proposing $39.7M in capital spending

George LeBlanc won't reoffer for Moncton mayor

The City of Moncton is looking at spending $39.7 million in 2016 on a series of new projects, such as the downtown sports and entertainment centre, a new RCMP facility and a north-end community centre.

Moncton councillors were shown the new capital budget at a meeting on Monday night.

But detailed questions and deliberations did not take place at the council meeting.

By the time the capital budget was presented, only six councillors were at the meeting.

Moncton Mayor George LeBlanc said he felt more councillors needed to be involved in the capital budget debate.

"I guess my view is we have a bare quorum here this evening. Some councillors couldn't be here," he said.

The motion to approve the capital budget has been pushed back until the next council meeting in two weeks.
