More evidence found in case of man facing 40 child sex abuse charges, Alabama cops say

Alabama authorities have brought additional charges against a man already accused of committing over two dozen sex crimes against children, the youngest just 2 years old.

Brandon Hart, 31 , was arrested after a search of his Smith Station home on Sept. 22 revealed evidence of child sexual abuse, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. Hart was booked on 21 counts of sex crimes against children, and his bond set at $990,000.

Investigators uncovered “additional evidence” that led police to charge Hart with 19 additional felony counts, including rape, sodomy, sexual torture and production of child pornography, the sheriff’s office said.

“This arrest was the result of an intensive investigative effort conducted jointly between the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation,” Sheriff Jay Jones said in a statement. “The investigation continues and the primary focus will always be to assist and protect the victims involved in these crimes.”

Authorities said Hart’s victims are between the ages of 2 and 14 years old, according to a release obtained by McClatchy News.

The sheriff’s office said additional charges are expected.

Hart remains held at the Lee County jail on roughly $2.1 million bond, police said.
