More five-star recruits set visits to Kentucky basketball, and other UK recruiting news.

Jayden Quaintance plays for the Word of God Christian Academy Holy Rams during an Overtime Elite league playoff game Feb. 25, 2023 at OTE Arena in Atlanta.

An active fall for the Kentucky men’s basketball program is now coming sharply into focus.

In addition to the schedule release announcements that came last week concerning UK’s 2023-24 slate of games, Wildcats fans can also now circle a pair of dates for high-profile visits from two more five-star recruits.

Jayden Quaintance, a five-star center who recently moved from the class of 2025 to the class of 2024, will be taking an official visit to Kentucky on Oct. 20, according to Travis Branham of 247Sports.

Darryn Peterson, a five-star shooting guard in the class of 2025, will be taking an unofficial visit to UK on Oct. 14, according to Travis Graf of MADE Hoops.

Both players represent top targets for head coach John Calipari and the Wildcats in upcoming recruiting classes.

Quaintance attends Word of God Christian Academy, a Raleigh, North Carolina, school that played last season as part of the Overtime Elite basketball league. Word of God is the same school that produced legendary one-and-done Kentucky men’s basketball player John Wall.

Quaintance is ranked as the No. 11 overall player in the 2024 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Peterson transferred this offseason from Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy in Ohio to Huntington Prep in West Virginia ahead of his junior season. Peterson was the first class of 2025 player that Kentucky offered a scholarship to.

Peterson’s father, Darryl, played at the University of Akron and is one of the top scorers in that school’s history.

Peterson is ranked as the No. 2 overall player in the 2025 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Graf also reported Peterson will take an unofficial visit to Ohio State on Oct. 21.

Peterson’s visit on Oct. 14 coincides with a Kentucky football home game against Missouri. While an official date hasn’t yet been released, Kentucky’s annual Big Blue Madness event — which is used as the kickoff to the men’s and women’s basketball seasons — is expected to take place Oct. 13 in Rupp Arena.

Quaintance’s visit on Oct. 20 is expected to coincide with Kentucky’s annual Blue-White preseason scrimmage. Quaintance has already taken an unofficial visit to the Wildcats.

A fascinating element with Quaintance’s recruitment is that because of his young age, Quaintance wouldn’t be eligible as a one-and-done NBA Draft prospect: He would have to spend two seasons in college, should he choose that route, before becoming draft eligible in 2026.

Several fall visits to Kentucky have already been reported for other top recruits, like class of 2025 point guard Darius Acuff Jr., class of 2025 power forward Caleb Wilson, class of 2024 combo guard Boogie Fland, class of 2024 shooting guard Billy Richmond and class of 2024 point guard Travis Perry, the all-time leading scorer in Kentucky high school boys’ basketball history.
