Laval police arrest mother of 7-year-old girl found dead earlier this month

Laval police have confirmed they have arrested the mother of the seven-year-old girl who died in Laval earlier this month.

The woman, in her mid-30s, was arrested just before 7 a.m. Friday, a police spokesperson said.

The woman is expected to make a court appearance by video-conference this afternoon to face charges of assault and criminal negligence causing death.

According to Radio-Canada, the child was found Jan. 3 with bruises and burns on her body.

First responders performed CPR on the child, but she was later pronounced dead at Sacré-Coeur hospital in Montreal.

An autopsy was ordered, but results have not been made public.
