A 56-year-old motorcyclist has died after being hit by a motorist in Montreal's Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough.

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) received a call around 5 p.m. Sunday reporting a collision at the intersection of Papineau Avenue and Prieur Street.

When they arrived at the scene, officers found the man lying on the ground and unconscious. They assisted him while waiting for the paramedics.

The man was transported to hospital, where he died of injuries overnight, SPVM spokesperson Sabrina Gauthier confirmed on Monday.

Police say the motorcyclist was travelling eastbound on Prieur Street when he was hit by a 24-year-old driver who was in a car travelling southbound on Papineau Avenue.

The driver of the car did not suffer any injuries.

A perimeter was erected at the site Sunday, and police are asking citizens to avoid the area.
