Motorcyclist dies in crash with school bus with children on board, Florida police say

A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a school bus with children on board, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The 28-year-old man was riding his motorcycle west on a highway in Okaloosa County just before 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 25, according to a news release from FHP.

As the motorcycle was nearing an intersection, a school bus entered the intersection after stopping at a stop sign and drove into its path, the release says. The motorcycle was traveling on the inside lane.

The motorcycle crashed into the left side of the bus, according to the release.

There were five children on board and two were taken to a hospital, the release says.

The driver of the school bus, a 64-year-old man, was not injured, the release says.

Florida Highway Patrol did not identify the motorcyclist. He was wearing a helmet. No further information was released about the crash.

The Okaloosa County School District did not immediately respond to a request for comment from McClatchy News on Jan. 26.

Okaloosa County is in the western part of the Florida Panhandle, about 165 miles west of Tallahassee.
