Ottawa driver caught speeding at 200 km/h on Highway 401
An Ottawa man faces multiple charges after he was allegedly caught speeding at 200 km/h and weaving in and out of traffic on Highway 401 Monday night.
According to the OPP's Napanee detachment, officers pulled over a grey Dodge Durango in the highway's eastbound lanes in Tyendinaga Township, just east of Belleville, Ont., shortly before 10:30 p.m.
The driver, 33, was charged under the criminal code with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and with stunt driving under the Highway Traffic Act.
He also had his vehicle seized and licence suspended for seven days, OPP said.
The speed limit on that stretch of the highway is 100 km/h.
2nd alleged stunt driver nabbed near Smiths Falls
Earlier Monday, another Ontario man was charged with stunt driving after allegedly going 85 km/h over the speed limit in the Rideau Lakes Township.
Ontario Provincial Police clocked a vehicle travelling at 165 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Highway 15 near Portland, Ont., about 30 kilometres south of Smiths Falls, around 3:10 p.m.
A 22-year-old man from Ajax, Ont., has had his vehicle impounded for a week and is scheduled to appear in a Brockville, Ont., court on Sept. 6.
