Toronto police chief pleads with public for help on Muzik shootings

Toronto police Chief Mark Saunders pleaded with "the thousands" who were at Muzik nightclub last Tuesday when two people were killed in two shootings to help them find the suspects.

Gunshots were fired inside the club located at Exhibition Place just before 3 a.m. last Tuesday. Duvel Hibbert, 23, from Brampton, was fatally shot inside Muzik and Ariela Navarro-Fenoy, 26, of Toronto, died after being shot near Dufferin Gates. Three other people were sent to hospital with gunshot wounds.

"Thousands were there but we don't have their cooperation," Saunders said. "We're asking anyone with any knowledge (about the incident) to come forward. This was done in a public place and it's hard to keep thousands of people silent. I need them to talk."

Saunders said the silence "encourages those people who bring firearms to clubs. Their biggest fear is when people talk, and when they don't talk, they're encouraged to pull out guns."

Saunders says Muzik "is taking overt steps" to improve security at the venue. A shooting at the same event last year sent a man to hospital.

Police released a vague description of two suspect they want to speak with about the shootings:

- A black man, six feet to six feet one inch tall, about 25 or 26 years old with a fresh buzzcut. He was wearing a purple, crewneck sweater and dark blue jeans.

- A second man, who was last seen near the Dufferin Gates, is described as a brown-skinned male, five feet, 10 inches or five feet, 11 inches tall with a skinny build, between 24 and 28 years of age. He was wearing a yellow and burgundy plaid button-up shirt.
