Nebraska coach Scott Frost says his offensive line vomits 15-20 times per practice
Vomiting is typically not a good sign for anyone at any time. Especially during football practice.
But Nebraska head coach Scott Frost sounded pleased when he told the Huskers Radio Network on Thursday that he typically sees "15-20 vomits every day from offensive linemen" at practice under new assistant coach Donovan Raiola.
"He's coaching them hard," Frost said. "And it's not because they’re not in shape – he’s just working them hard. I think they love it. He’s kind of freed them up to go be aggressive and I love the way they’re coming off the ball.”
Raiola joined Frost's staff this season after three years in the NFL as the Chicago Bears' assistant offensive line coach. He also coached at Aurora University, Notre Dame and Hawaii following a six-year playing career in the NFL and United Football League.
Frost better hope all the hard training pays off for the Cornhuskers this season. Nebraska is 15-27 under Frost since 2018 and has yet to qualify for a bowl game during his tenure as head coach. Frost recently named Texas transfer Casey Thompson as the team's starting quarterback; he started 12 games for the Longhorns in 2021 with 24 touchdowns to nine interceptions.
Raiola wasn't the only new coach Frost brought in. Frost also hired former Pittsburgh assistant Mark Whipple as the team's offensive coordinator as well as former LSU assistant Mickey Joseph as the team's receivers coach and associate head coach.
Nebraska decided to keep Frost on this season despite his record by agreeing to a restructured contract that dropped Frost's 2022 salary from $5 million to $4 million and his buyout from $15 million to $7.5 million.
Frost and the team were hit with a small NCAA violation in May for employing a special teams analyst who “provided technical or tactical instruction” to players during practice and film sessions. Frost was given a one-year show-cause penalty and will serve a five-day suspension from all coaching activities during the 2022 season. Nebraska was also fined $10,000 and will be on probation through April 2023.
