A spokesperson for Netflix told the BBC that there is "nothing to share right now" about whether the UK will also be impacted by the price increase. Yahoo UK has reached out to Netflix for further comment.

Per The Independent, in a letter to investors Netflix executives explained that the price increase was coming into effect to give users an even better experience: "As we continue to invest in programming and deliver more value for our members, we will occasionally ask our members to pay a little more so that we can re-invest to further improve Netflix.

"To that end, we are adjusting prices today across most plans in the US, Canada, Portugal and Argentina (which was already factored into the 2025 guidance we provided in October 2024)."

It is unclear how the UK prices would be impacted if they were to increase, at the moment the subscription tiers are £7.99 for an ad-free account, and £17.99 for the premium subscription.

It is currently unclear when the subscription prices for Netflix will increase, but it is expected to take effect in 2025.

The streaming platform is likely planning the price hike with the releases of Squid Game season 3 and the final ever season of Stranger Things, both of which are expected to come out in the second half of 2025.
