Nicole Young Says Her ‘Heartfelt Apology’ for Calling Emma Hernan a Social Climber ‘Wasn’t Shown’ on 'Selling Sunset'
During an episode of ‘We Have the Receipts,’ the ‘Selling Sunset’ realtor opened up about why she dubbed her costar a “social climber” in the first place
Nicole Young is revealing more details about her feud with Selling Sunset costar Emma Hernan.
Fans got a front-row seat to the drama between the Oppenheim Group agents after season 7 of the hit Netflix docusoap premiered this past Friday. In the latest installment, things get heated when Hernan confronts Young for calling her a “social climber” behind her back.
While appearing on Chris Burns and Lauren Hamilton-Speed’s podcast, We Have the Receipts, Young opens up about why she made the comment in the first place, and how her apology to Hernan didn’t make the cut this season.

“At Heather’s baby shower, I was actually having a conversation with Davina,” Young explains, referring to former O Group agent Davina Potratz while they were at Heather El Moussa’s shower. “She was venting to me about how hurt and upset she was by Emma.”
Young continues, “She was saying she was really good friends with Emma and they were hanging out all the time, and then Chrishell came along and Emma basically dumped her for Chrishell. And she was legitimately hurt by that.”
Chrishell Stause and Hernan have become close friends since Hernan — who was already a real estate agent at the Oppenheim Group — became an official cast member on the show in season 4.
Young said she told Potratz, “Oh yeah, that sounds like a social climber move,” and later admitted to Burns and Hamilton-Speed that she “absolutely said it.” She also tells the hosts that she meant no offense to Hernan and that she was just “making an observation.”
“I was like, it’s social. I’m not talking about any of your professional endeavors. I’m literally just making an observation of a social situation,” she adds. “Here’s the thing too, being a social climber is not a bad thing, It doesn’t make you a bad person.”
Young reveals that she extended a “heartfelt apology” to Hernan at the Oppenheim Group's 10-year anniversary dinner in which she reiterated that she wasn’t making a dig at her business and that she didn’t mean to hurt her feelings.
The realtor goes into further detail on her Instagram Story about her apology that “they unfortunately didn’t show” in the final cut of the season.

After fellow O Group agent Chelsea Lazkani spilled that Young had dubbed Hernan a “social climber” on season 7, Hernan was immediately taken aback.
"Is that a joke? Of all the things you could call me… 'Social climber?'" she responds. "Tell me I dress like a hoe. I'll take it. But a social climber? I built my own stairs. Thank you, Nicole." She later confronts Young at Lazkani's 30th birthday party and asks her, "Do you know what a social climber is?"
"Someone who attaches themselves to someone who has a greater status, so they can gain a greater status," Young shoots back, adding, "Your victim friend who can do no wrong… You guys are trying to get everyone against me."
