Nicolino Camardi, accused of killing pets, spoke of killing humans, court hearing told
The girlfriend of a Calgary man facing animal cruelty charges told police he had thoughts of killing humans, according to a transcript from a court hearing.
Nicolino Ivano Camardi, 19, is accused of killing a cat and dog that were found with their mouths taped shut in an alley in the community of Willow Park in January.
He has been charged with two counts of wilfully causing unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to an animal.
At a March 10 court hearing, a Calgary police officer said Camardi told officers he intended to kill his girlfriend.
Const. Aaron Squirrell told the court that Camardi made comments while in police custody about hearing voices that were telling him to kill his girlfriend, and that he needed to kill her soon.
The hearing was held for an emergency protection order for the girlfriend.
Squirrell also told the hearing that Camardi has a history of mental illness and psychosis. He is currently undergoing a court ordered 30-day psychiatric assessment.
The girlfriend told police she witnessed Camardi abuse animals and that he spoke to her about murder and killing humans.
"She felt that he was kind of escalating," Squirrell told the hearing.
"I had explained to her that often people who are psychotic often start killing animals, obviously are abusive, and can progress into murder. She said that he has not only spoken about harming and hurting animals, and she's seen him harm animals, but that he has spoken about harming humans."
None of the allegations made at the hearing have been proven in court.
