From Nikki Glaser to Nick Jonas: Here’s who is heading to SLO County this summer

Summer is here, and some of San Luis Obispo County’s top entertainment venues have a whole slew of musical and other acts in store.

California Mid-State Fair announces 3 more acts

At the California Mid-State Fair — which runs from July 17 to July 28 — acts like Miranda Lambert, Brad Paisley, Nickelback, Jelly Roll and the Country Rodeo finals have already been confirmed.

But joining them this year will be other Grandstand acts like Sublime, Cheap Trick and Monster Truck Madness, the Mid-State Fair announced in a news release.

Reggae and ska band Sublime and musician Rome Ramirez — best known for the song “Santeria” — will visit San Luis Obispo County as part of the band’s final year of performances. Its concert will be held July 19 at 7:30 p.m. , according to the release.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary year, Cheap Trick — the band behind pop rock songs such as “Surrender,” “I Want You To Want Me” and the worldwide No. 1 single “The Flame” — will perform July 26 at 7:30 p.m.

On the last day of the fair, Monster Truck Madness will be presented by Zero Nox and Slime. The show starts at 7 p.m., with tickets around $35.

Early admission tickets for the Fair itself were on sale from $9 to $13. Children under five are free.

Vina Robles Amphitheatre to host comedians, rock band

Vina Robles Amphitheater will host comedian Gabriel Iglesias and California-born rock band CAKE in June and July, while renowned groups like Los Lobos & Los Lonely Boys and The Beach Boys are set to come later this summer.

Comedian Nikki Glaser will perform at the venue Aug. 4 after adding six more dates to her Alive and Unwell Tour, according to a press release from Nederlander Concerts.

Tickets were available on Ticketmaster for $49.50 and up.

Popular Celtic punk band Flogging Molly will also be at the Amphitheatre on Oct. 12, before wrapping up its tour in Sacramento at Aftershock Festival the next day. Tickets were sale on Ticketmaster for $39.50 and up.

Later in the year, guests looking to move their feet can find British dance project JUNGLE at Vina Robles on Sept. 25 at 8 p.m. Tickets were available on Ticketmaster.

The group was coming off of its first ever BRIT Award for Best Group after releasing its most recent album, “VOLCANO,” according to a Vina Robles news release.

Nick Jonas to speak at showing of new movie in SLO

Actor and singer Nick Jonas will meanwhile make a stop in San Luis Obispo to talk about his new film, “The Good Half” in July.

According to a news release, Jonas will appear in a conversation with film director Robert Schwartzman at the Downtown Centre Cinema on July 23. The event will also include a showing of the comedy-drama.

According to a synopsis, the film follows Renn Wheeland, played by Jonas, as he returns home to Cleveland for his mother’s funeral. He forges new relationships while healing old ones, before confronting his problems and facing grief.
