Nordstrom Rack opens newest location in the Sacramento region. ‘Exactly what our city needs.’
Nordstrom Rack in Elk Grove is officially open for business, and it already made some sales earlier this week.
Nearly 150 people lined up Tuesday for an exclusive preview of the department store chain’s newest location in the Sacramento region, which opened to the general public at 9 a.m. Thursday.
Nordstrom announced last year that the 25,000-square-foot store would open in The Ridge shopping center, at the southeast corner of Elk Grove Boulevard and Bruceville Road.
Nordstrom Rackcarries mainstream clothing brands, accessories and shoes at discounted prices of up to 70%.
To celebrate the store’s grand opening Thursday, there will be light snacks, beauty activation and gift card giveaways of up to $1,000, Nordstrom officials said in a news release.
VIP Nordstrom shoppers had the first opportunity to shop on Tuesday during their sneak peek at the store.
That’s what Elk Grove resident Irene Brown found herself doing when she lined up along the store’s entrance waiting to get first dibs on items.
“I just wanted high end designer bags and shoes,” Brown said. “Those are the main things I came for, but I also like to check out all the other clothes and stuff. They have better deals in the store.”
Nordstrom Rack has four other stores in the Sacramento area: in Folsom, Roseville, Natomas and the Arden Arcade area near Howe Avenue.
“I’m very excited that it’s right here (in Elk Grove) instead of having to drive all the way to Arden or Roseville,” Brown said.
Another Elk Grove resident, Mike Smith, said he benefits from the new Nordstrom Rack location as it’s a walkable trek from his house. Smith took a stroll with his wife, who wanted to check out the new Nordstrom.
“We walked over. We went to Costco. It’s a big center here. It’s awesome,” Smith said. “It’s a big deal. (We’ve) been to the one in Arden but it’s farther. This is walking distance so I love it.”
Smith and his wife are planning to go on vacation to Lake Tahoe this weekend and she wanted to get some new clothes. While she shopped in the women’s section, Smith took a liking to a new wardrobe himself.
“I have a couple of shirts. I got a Lucky Brand, Tommy Bahama. A couple of colorful swimsuits. I’m ready for the summer,” Smith said. “We’ve always got something planned.”
It was a party-like scene inside the new store; that’s how Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen described the opening, which had a DJ playing pop tunes from the 2010s.
“I love Nordstrom Rack. I shop at Nordstrom Rack and the fact that we have one now finally in Elk Grove is very exciting news,” Singh-Allen said. “I love this, this is exactly what our city needs.”
Elk Grove couple Irene and Bobby Love were enjoying their shopping but gave one suggestion for improvement.
“I wish they had extended sizes because we matter,” Irene said. “We got money to spend too, you know.”
