North Texas Uber driver injured in apparently targeted shooting, Saginaw police say

An Uber driver was seriously injured Monday in Saginaw when a vehicle pulled up alongside his and the occupants started shooting, police said.

Officers responded to a shots fired call in the 200 block of East Bailey-Boswell Road around 8:45 p.m., Saginaw police said in a news release. They found a wrecked Nissan Sentra and a 24-year-old man who’d been shot in the back of the neck.

The victim told police he was operating the Sentra as an Uber ride share. He picked up three men and was driving in the 200 block of E. Bailey-Boswell Road when another vehicle came alongside his. According to the victim and eyewitnesses, the occupants of the other car started firing at the Sentra, the release said.

Police said they found the suspect vehicle abandoned a few blocks away. No arrests have been announced.

Investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident and one of the three passengers in the Uber was the intended target, according to the release. The investigation is ongoing.

The Uber driver was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth in serious condition.
