Officials believe a dog is missing after Tuesday’s deadly crash on I-80 near Milesburg

Officials believe a dog escaped an early Tuesday morning crash that killed three people and are asking for the public’s assistance in locating it.

The two-year-old collie-poodle mix is gray and responds to the name Hazel. Centre County Deputy Coroner Judy Pleskonko said family members of the crash victims — Thomas Feick, 48, his wife Catherine Feick, 49, and their son, 18-year-old Derek Feick, of Porter County, Indiana — reported the dog was in the car at the time of the crash. It was not found at the crash scene.

Three people in a passenger car were killed early Tuesday morning after chain-reaction crashes on Interstate 80 near Milesburg. After being struck by a tractor-trailer, the car came to rest on the right shoulder of the roadway before it was struck by a second tractor-trailer, according to state police at Rockview. Two of the occupants were ejected with fatal injuries and a third passenger sustained fatal injuries in the vehicle, police wrote.

The driver of the second tractor-trailer was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Altoona, and an intervening bystander who had been walking to approach the scene of the first crash was also airlifted to the hospital.

The dog that had been in the car is 45-50 pounds and around 23 inches tall. She was last seen wearing a blue harness.

The dog is believed to be wandering around the forest by the crash site near Exit 156 of I-80 West. As of late Wednesday afternoon, state police at Rockview had not received any calls about the missing animal.
