Ohio State-Iowa Game Where Caitlin Clark Set Record Draws Best Women’s College Hoops Audience in 25 Years

Fox’s broadcast of Sunday afternoon’s women’s college basketball game between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Iowa Hawkeyes — in which Iowa’s Caitlin Clark set an all-time NCAA scoring record — hit some highs of its own.

Fox Sports reported on Tuesday that the the Hawkeyes’ 93-83 win averaged 3.39 million total viewers, making it the most-watched regular season, women’s college basketball game on any network since 1999.

That audience of 3.39 million also marks the most-watched women’s college basketball game in Fox Sports history.

Viewership for the Buckeyes-Hawkeyes match-up peaked at 4.42 million viewers from 3-3:14 pm Eastern time.

Clark went into Sunday’s game with her eye on the all-time NCAA basketball scoring record of 3,667 points, held by Pete Maravich. (Clark broke Kelsey Plum’s NCAA women’s scoring record of 3,527 points back on Feb. 15.) Clark needed 18 points to eclipse Maravich’s mark, and with a second-quarter free throw, she did just that.

By the time the Hawkeyes has clinched their Sunday win, Clark’s new NCAA basketball scoring record stood at 3,685 points.

Clark’s feat came during her final regular-season game as a college athlete. Though she has another year of eligibility, the 22-year-old Clark announced on Feb. 29 that she would enter the WNBA draft next month.
