May 29 softball playoff update: Freeburg’s terrific season ends one win from state
The IHSA softball postseason is currently taking place.
Here are the latest results involving metro-east teams, along with results from over the weekend.

Class 2A
Johnston City Super-Sectional
Freeburg fell to the host Indians 2-0 on Monday, May 29, and finished one win from the state tournament.
The Midgets finished at 33-2, while Johnston City improved to 31-5.
The Indians now advance to the state tournament at Louisville Slugger Sports Complex in Peoria and will face at 3 p.m. Friday, June 2.
Freeburg Sectional
Freeburg rolled to a 12-0 win in 5 innings against Columbia in the sectional title game Friday, May 26.
The Midgets improved to 33-1, while the Eagles finished at 19-12.
Samantha Roulanaitis continued her outstanding season, firing a no-hitter while striking out 7 batters to improve to 26-1. On offense, Nicole Edmiaston, Lindsey Muskopf (1 home run) and Emma Otten (1 home run) paced the Midgets with 3 RBI apiece. The trio combined for 7 hits, while Briley Schmittling (1 run scored) and Calli Smith (1 run scored, 1 RBI) each had 2 hits.
In two previous Cahokia Conference match-ups this spring, the Midgets had defeated the Eagles 8-3 and 4-2.

Class 3A
Civic Memorial Regional
Highland defeated Civic Memorial 12-9 to capture the regional championship Friday, May 26.
HHS improved to 24-7-1 while the Eagles finished the season at 15-14.
The Bulldogs now advance to the Highland Sectional where they will face Charleston (25-5) at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 31.
HHS had several offensive stars against Civic Memorial, including Maggie Grohmann (3-for-4, 3 RBI); Madalyn Trauernicht (2-for-5, 3 RBI); and Alex Schultz (3-for-4, 2 RBI). Sophia Donoho earned the win, striking out 10 in a complete-game effort.
This marked Highland’s third victory over CM this season, having previously posted 11-4 and 9-5 decisions in Mississippi Valley Conference games.
Jerseyville Regional
Waterloo rolled past Jerseyville 7-0 to claim the regional crown Friday, May 26.
The Bulldogs improved to 18-12, while the Panthers finished at 20-13. Mia Miller had 2 RBI for the Bulldogs while throwing a 1-hit complete game, fanning 14.
Waterloo now advances to the Highland Sectional and will face Carbondale (19-12) at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 30.
Jerseyeville had defeated Waterloo 4-3 and 4-0 in two Mississippi Valley Conference match-ups this season.

Class 4A
O’Fallon Regional
Belleville East rolled past O’Fallon 10-2 to secure the regional crown Friday, May 26.
East previously defeated O’Fallon 11-10 and 8-2 in Southwestern Conference action this season. The Lancers improved to 27-7-1, while the Panthers finished at 11-17.
Maya Hataway paced the Belleville East attack with 4 hits and an RBI. Ava Hamilton chipped in 3 hits and 2 RBI, while Elise Hinrichs notched 3 hits. Olivia Hemmerle, meanwhile, was strong on the mound, firing a complete-game 5-hitter.
Belleville East now advances the Normal Community Sectional and will face Edwardsville at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, at Belleville West.
Belleville West Regional
Edwardsville eased past Belleville West 11-5 to earn the regional title Saturday, May 27.
The Tigers improved to 29-6, while the Maroons finished at 15-20. This marked Edwardsville’s third win against West this spring, having posted 15-2 and 10-2 victories previously.
Riley Nelso and Grace Oertle paced the Tigers’ attack, each posting 2 hits and 3 RBI. Aubrey Weaver had 2 RBI for the Maroons.
Edwardsville now advances the Normal Community Sectional and will face Belleville East at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, at Belleville West.
