Oklahoma CB transfer Jaden Davis (St. Thomas Aquinas grad) ‘coming home’ to Miami Canes

The Miami Hurricanes are bringing home another transfer to their football program.

Oklahoma cornerback Jaden Davis, who grew up in Fort Lauderdale and graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School as a consensus four-star prospect, announced Monday evening on social media that he is transferring to Miami for his final season.

Davis is a welcome addition to a Miami team that had its two starting cornerbacks drafted into the NFL this past weekend. Tyrique Stevenson, another transfer who returned to his hometown team before the 2021 season, went to the Chicago Bears in the second round (56th overall pick). DJ Ivey went to the Cincinnati Bengals in the seventh round (246 overall).

Davis tweeted out two words at 7 p.m.: “Coming Home.’’

Davis, a graduate transfer, entered the portal April 17 and visited the Miami campus last week. The two-week portal window closed for player entry on Friday, though graduate transfers can switch schools at any time. Once a player is in the portal, he can announce when he chooses.

Davis is listed as 5-10 and 183 pounds and started 22 of his 47 games with the Sooners since his true freshman season in 2019. His career numbers, per Oklahoma: 104 tackles, 10 pass breakups and one interception. He missed the last three regular-season games of 2022 with an injury, then had three tackles in OU’s 35-32 loss to Florida State in the Cheez-It Bowl.

In 2022, Davis had 35 tackles, two pass breakups and a tackle for loss.

Although the Hurricanes lost Stevenson and Ivey to the NFL, UM has veteran nickelback Te’Cory Couch. Recent additions before spring practice included UCF transfer Davonte Brown and Iowa transfer Terry Roberts.. UM also has former West Virginia transfer Daryl Porter Jr., who played in nine games last season, with one start, tallying 11 tackles (two for losses) and a pass breakup.

The last UM transfer from Oklahoma? Receiver Charleston Rambo, who had exceptional numbers for UM in 2021 and broke Miami’s single-season records for receiving yards and receptions (79 catches for 1,172 yards and seven touchdowns in 12 games). But Rambo was never drafted and now plays in the XFL for the Orlando Guardians.
