Olivia Munn Reveals Breast Cancer Diagnosis, Multiple Surgeries: “We Caught It With Enough Time That I Had Options”
Olivia Munn revealed today that she was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and has undergone four surgeries including a double mastectomy.
In an Instagram post today, the 43-year-old actor said, “I hope by sharing this it will help others find comfort, inspiration and support on their own journey.”

Munn said on the post that she was diagnosed in February 2023 after testing negative for the BRCA gene, a mutation commonly linked to breast cancer. Despite the negative test, her OB-GYN determined she had a 37% lifetime risk of having breast cancer and so advised Munn to undergo an MRI and a biopsy.
“Two months later I was diagnosed with breast cancer,” Munn wrote.

“We caught it with enough time that I had options,” she wrote. “I want the same for any woman who might have to face this one day.”
“In the past ten months, I have had four surgeries, so many days spent in bed I can’t even count and have learned more about cancer, cancer treatment and hormones than I ever could have imagined. Surprisingly, I’ve only cried twice. I guess I haven’t felt like there was time to cry.”
Munn said she has kept the diagnosis private until now because she “needed to catch” her breath “and get through some of the hardest parts before sharing.”
She thanks her partner, actor and comedian John Mulaney, for “the nights he spent researching what ever operation and medication meant and what side effects and recovery I could expect” and for “being there before I went into each surgery and being there when I woke up, always placing framed photos of our little boy Malcolm so it would be the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes.”
