Olympia man is injured in I-5 wreck near Lacey, State Patrol says

A 31-year-old Seattle man, suspected of driving under the influence, injured an Olympia man on Interstate 5 Thursday night, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The 44-year-old Olympia man was hurt and taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. The Seattle man was not hurt, but is now facing a vehicular assault charge because of the suspected DUI, according to State Patrol.

About 10:25 p.m. Thursday, the Seattle man was headed north on I-5 in Lacey, approaching the Marvin Road overpass.

Troopers say he drove off the road to the left, struck a cable barrier, went through the freeway median and crashed into the Olympia man driving south.

Traffic was slowed in the area for more than three hours following the wreck, according to State Patrol.
