One dead after shooting on Bulldog Lane, Fresno police say. It’s 6th homicide of 2024

Detectives opened an investigation after a shooting left one man dead in north Fresno, police said Friday.

The violence was reported just before 11 p.m. Thursday on Bulldog Lane near Sixth Street, southwest of multiple athletic fields at Fresno State, Sgt. Diana Trueba Vega confirmed.

Police responded to the scene and found a man withering from one gunshot wound, according to an update from police on Friday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was identified by police about 1:30 p.m. Friday as Joel Rueda, 31. He was shot inside an apartment in the area, police said.

Others who were inside were being questioned by detectives on Friday, police said. Officers have not publicly described a potential motive.

Police did not provide details on a suspect.

The killing marks the sixth intentional homicide so far this year, police said. There were five at the same time last year.
