Police identify 27-year-old killed in motorcycle crash along East Independence Blvd.



Police have identified the person killed in a crash involving a CATS bus Tuesday evening in southeast Charlotte.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, a motorcyclist, identified as 27-year-old Timothy Daniel Pickell, was speeding in and out of traffic when he crashed into a Dodge Charger. From the impact of the crash, he was ejected from his bike which then hit a CATS bus, police said.

CMPD, the Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC were all called to the accident, which happened around 6:30 p.m. at the 3300 block of East Independence Boulevard.

Pickell was pronounced dead at the scene. The other drivers, who have not been identified, were not hurt in the crash.

CMPD says the crash is still under investigation, but “speed and reckless operation of the motorcycle are believed to be contributing factors in this crash.” Toxicology results are also pending.
