One person dead, another injured in Madison County fire and shooting, authorities say

One person is dead and another injured after a reported shooting and house fire in Madison County Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

Around 2:10 p.m. Saturday, deputies with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shots fired call. When they arrived at the scene on Jeremiah Drive, they located Nancey Irwin, with non-life threatening gunshot wounds in a vehicle.

Deputies also noticed flames coming from the residence, which prevented them from entering the home to attempt to locate the other occupant, according to a release.

Seven fire departments responded to the scene to extinguish the fire including the Madison County Fire Department, which located a dead body inside. The individual remains unidentified.

Madison County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison confirmed his office had not made a positive identification due to burns. The body was sent to Frankfort and is pending autopsy. Cornelison confirmed the man was a resident of the home, or thought to have stayed there.

Other responding agencies included 911 Communications, Madison County EMS, Madison County Fire, Kirksville Volunteer Fire Department, White Volunteer Fire Department, Union City Volunteer Fire Department, Waco Volunteer Fire Department, Richmond Fire Department, Clark County Fire Department, London-Laurel County Rescue Squad Human Remains Detection, K9 Ginger and handler Stephanie York-Fields, and the ATF.
