Update: driver identified. One dead after running off road north of Myrtle Beach, SC area
One person died after their Jeep overturned along S.C. 31 near Little River, said Master Trooper William Bennett.
While driving on the S.C. 9 ramp of S.C. 31, Michael Smetanka, 47, lost control of his vehicle Tuesday night, according to an email from Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard. The Indiana man drove off the road, hit a guardrail and overturned.
Smetanka died on the scene from multiple traumatic injuries. He was the only person in the Jeep.
Horry County Fire Rescue responded at 8:57 p.m. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
