Ontario announces $498M in funding to build 30 new schools

Minister of Education Liz Sandals has announced $498 million in funding to build 30 new schools, renovate 26 existing ones and create 2,135 new child care spaces across Ontario.

Sandals made the announcement at Davisville Junior Public School today, which she says will get a new school building through the funding.

In Toronto, Davisville will be one of two new schools built through the funding, the other will be Cardinal Newman Catholic Secondary School. Four schools in the city, two public and two Catholic, will receive building extensions.

Here are the schools getting renovations:

- St Clement Catholic Secondary School.

- St Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Secondary School.

- Norseman Junior Middle School.

- Terry Fox Public School.

"All together that will provide improved facilities and enhanced learning opportunities for more than 1,300 local students and families will also benefit from increased access to safe high quality child care," said Sandals this morning.

The province says those child care spaces will be built in areas where there is a significant demand. 122 new child care rooms will be built to create the 2,135 new spaces for infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers.
