Two people are facing a variety of charges following a series of car thefts in the Kenora area on Monday, according to Ontario Provincial Police.

The OPP have charged a 29-year-old Kenora woman and a 21-year-old man from Manitoba.

Police said that after receiving a traffic complaint on Monday morning, they attempted to stop a vehicle on Highway 71, south of Kenora. The vehicle did not stop, but police later found it in a driveway in the Longbow Lake area.

The male driver had left the vehicle — which police determined had been stolen — but a woman and two small children were still inside, according to a press release issued by the OPP on Tuesday.

While police were on-scene investigating, the male suspect stole a nearby pickup truck and fled, leaving the woman and children behind, police said.

He was found in Manitoba later that evening after allegedly stealing another vehicle in Kenora, and was arrested by the RCMP in Lac du Bonnet, Man.

The man has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, break and enter, and dangerous driving, among numerous other offences. He is currently being held in custody in Manitoba.

The woman faces charges of possession of property obtained by crime, and has been released to appear in court in Kenora at a later date.
