Operations Igloo and Implant net 17 arrests
Two women and 15 men are facing drug trafficking charges after two undercover police operations in Halifax.
The operations began two months ago, and the last arrests were just hours before the police news announcement on Thursday.
During Operations Igloo and Implant undercover police bought crack cocaine and the powerful prescription painkiller dilaudid from drug dealers in the east end of Dartmouth and the north end of Halifax.
"These drugs are highly addictive and can destroy a person's life. An individual who's addicted to these types of drugs will do whatever they need to do to get their next dose, including committing crimes to support their habit," said Deputy Halifax Police Chief Bill Moore.
RCMP Insp. Dennis Daley says these arrests are part of a broader effort to clean up Halifax's streets.
"We are seeing successes...we are not going to stand by and watch as criminals bring drugs and violence to our communities," said Daley.
Some of suspects appeared in provincial court Thursday.
