1 dead after boat flips on St. Lawrence River

Ontario Provincial Police are investigating after one person died Saturday in a boating incident on the St. Lawrence River west of Brockville, Ont.

The OPP said in a media release that members of their Leeds County detachment responded to the area near Butternut Bay shortly after 8 a.m. following a report that a vessel had flipped in the water.

There were two people on board, according to the OPP.

A 64-year-old from Leeds and the Thousand Islands Township was pronounced dead on the scene, while a second person was sent to hospital.

Police say the investigation is ongoing. Witnesses are asked to contact the OPP's Leeds County detachment.
