Ottawa man charged after 2015 crash left Shea Laughlin, Marc Sabourin dead

An Ottawa man has been charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing death after the van he was driving collided with a motorcycle in August, killing two Osgoode, Ont., residents.

The crash happened on Belmeade Road in Winchester, Ont., southeast of Ottawa, during the evening of Aug. 13, 2015, Ontario Provincial Police said in a media release at the time.

SheaLaughlin, 24, was driving the motorcycle at the time. Marc Sabourin, 31, was riding on the passenger seat behind her.

They were heading east on Belmeade when a van travelling in the opposite direction entered their lane and crashed into the motorcycle, OPP said.

Laughlin and Sabourin were pronounced dead at the scene.

Man charged 5 months later

The driver of the van, a 41-year-old Ottawa man, wasn't injured. A passenger in the van suffered minor injuries.

At the time OPP said charges were pending against the driver of the van.

More than five months later, police said the 41-year-old was arrested and charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

He was released from custody on a promise to appear in court in Morrisburg, Ont., on April 5.
