Ali Zafar has always dreamt of crossing cultural borders with his music. On Friday, the Pakistani star and Danny Zee joined Mykko Montana for what they say is the first-ever Punjabi-trap collab, “Sushi// Woofer Paar De.”

“I got that baddest bitch in town and she rich yeah/Slip n slide in my ride like a fish,” Zee opens the song in English. “Don’t follow my bitch she twerkin’/Uh Brand new whip we swervin’.”

The music video jumps between Los Angeles and Lahore, Pakistan, and sees Zee surrounded by women in a hot tub, Montana rapping from inside a home, and Zafar singing his verse in Punjabi while surrounded by women in traditional Pakistani attire.

“My next big dream is to break into the international music scene as a Pakistani and Punjabi and [represent] this culture that has a lot of angst and has been through pain and agonizing realities,” Zafar tells Rolling Stone. “There’s a lot to say. I feel if God gave me an opportunity to have a voice, I can change minds for the better, and help people in the West look at us in a different light.”

Zafar says that collaborating with a Western artist seemed like the perfect next step in his career, after having broken into the Bollywood scene as a Pakistani artist. “I always believed I could break barriers,” he says. “Going to India for Bollywood was a big thing as a Pakistani, but it opened hearts… and showed how we can work together and have fun.”

Zafar sees music as a unifying force where any culture can find “common ground,” and where people can celebrate their differences and diversity as well. “We are on the cusp of something very new and grand,” he adds.

In July, Danny Zee released the bilingual single “Jee Karda // Stupefied” and joined Ozzy and Shaun Enzo on “32 BOR.” For his part, Zafar released “HUSN” in late June and an EP titled #IDontWannaTalk. Mykko Montana dropped his album Double M in July.
